About Kamala Das

Kamala Das (1934-2009), an Indian poet and author, rose to popularity for her audacious and frank portrayal of feminine sexuality in a traditional environment. She was born in Kerala and challenged established gender roles with her bold poetry. Das worked in both English and Malayalam and received praise for works such as "The Descendants" and "My Story," an autobiographical narrative. She was a pioneer in Indian literature, exploring issues of love, identity, and politics. With her blunt voice and unapologetic investigation of forbidden issues, Das, also known as Madhavikutty, left an everlasting influence on Indian literature.
