This book has been written for those who receive or are likely to receive RTI applications from the citizens of India. Many officials lack knowledge of the RTI Act, 2005. Some know the law but are not sure how to apply it while processing the RTI applications received by them. Many feel harassed and frightened. This book aims at equipping operating officials with practical knowledge to make their RTI experience painless. I have included, in this second edition, many templates, for the benefit of various officials designated under the Act, especially the PIOs and APIOs. I hope these will help them in expeditious processing of applications and appeals. Lakshmy Chandrasekaran Iyer Mumbai September, 2022

"Your Guide to the Right to Information Act, 2005" by Lakshmy Chandrasekaran Iyer is an essential and comprehensive resource that provides a clear and practical understanding of India's landmark legislation - the Right to Information (RTI) Act. As a guidebook on a crucial law that empowers citizens with the right to access information from public authorities, Iyer's book proves to be an indispensable tool for anyone seeking to exercise their right to information effectively. From the outset, the author demonstrates a deep understanding of the RTI Act and its significance in promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance in India. Iyer adeptly breaks down the complex legal language of the Act into accessible and reader-friendly explanations, making it easy for individuals from all backgrounds to grasp the nuances of the law. One of the book's strengths is its structured approach, wherein each section of the RTI Act is examined thoroughly, along with practical examples and case studies to illustrate its application. Iyer ensures that readers are not only informed about the provisions of the Act but also equipped with real-life scenarios to understand how they can effectively use the legislation to obtain information from government bodies.

Great book and a must read. This book was intended for people who currently receive or will likely receive RTI requests from Indian residents. The RTI Act of 2005 is mostly unknown to government officials. While processing the RTI applications they have received, some people are aware of the law but are unsure of how to apply it. Many people feel threatened and harassed. This book attempts to arm operating authorities with useful information to make their RTI experience as painless as possible. For the benefit of the numerous officials authorised under the Act, especially the PIOs and APIOs, I have added a number of templates in this second edition. I'm hoping that this will facilitate the processing of applications and appeals quickly.
